Two weeks ago, my husband and I took a Getaway to Standardsville, Virginia with our dog. There is this neat little company called Getaway that offers tiny cabins for rent in the woods, a chance to escape the hustle and bustle of work and the city. During our weekend trip, which occurred at the midway point of October, we definitely felt the first hints of fall. The trees were still green, but there was a nip in the air as we warmed up by the campfire in our knitted ponchos. Even our dog, Peter, despite donning is goodest-boy sweater, still came into the cabin at the end of the night with freezing cold paw pads.
We did manage to do some hiking through Shenandoah National Park the following day, which helped us warm up (despite the wind and rain that plagued our hike). I think Peter particularly enjoyed getting muddied up through the woods, though I was glad when we returned to our tiny cabin again for the night...forever a city girl. Still, I would definitely do this again in a heartbeat.
